San Diego State University

San Diego State University (SDSU) was founded in 1897. It was originally call the San Diego Normal School. The school then changed its name 4 times before finally becoming San Diego State University.

San Diego has a diverse student body and is in the top ten for racial diversity. It has a big role to play in educating the work force, in fact 1 in 7 people who hold degrees in San Diego have a degree from SDSU.

San Diego is primarily a research university and has “Research University” status from the prestigious Carnegie Foundation. There are many schools within the university including the College of Arts & Letters, the College of Business Administration, the College of Education, the College of Engineering, the College of Health & Human Services, the College of Sciences, the College of Professional Studies & Fine Arts and the College of Extended Studies

San Diego has good sports facilities and a good record at competitive sports. The sports they have teams for include football, volleyball, basketball, baseball and soccer. There have been recent developments including a brand new $12 million aquatic centre. This incorporates an Olympic sized swimming pool and spa.

There are many notable alumni who have attended the university, but a few names include Michael Cage, Greg Bear and Courtney Friel.
