I don’t know about you, but with exams left, right and centre, parties all over the place and mroe work than I can cope with, sleep has been pretty low down my agenda! I know how important it is but I just can’t seem to sleep well.

That’s why I was pretty please when I stumbled across this article with some great tips on it. Here is a short extract, but to read the whole thinkg you’ll have to visit the site via the link at the bottom.

On the surface, it may seem like the terms “getting a good night’s sleep” and “dorm room” don’t go together. This isn’t necessarily the case. Check out these 10 ways to get a good night’s sleep while living in a dorm room to find out how to make it happen.

1. Start with a comfortable mattress.

A good night’s sleep starts with a mattress that you will be able to relax on. Take the time to try out several styles before you decide which one you are going to use. It is worth the money to spend a bit more and get a more comfortable mattress than to try to save a few dollars on a cheap mattress.

You may want to go with a loft bed, since this model gives you some storage space underneath. You can put your desk underneath and put up a curtain to give you some privacy, which is an important consideration when you are sharing accommodation with one or more roommates.

A futon is another choice if you are looking for flexibility when in a dorm room. It can be adjusted from a couch to a full bed, quickly and easily. If you decide to go for this option, make sure that you get one with a thick mattress that you will find comfortable when you try to sleep on it.

Welcome to the fourth installment of a series of 5 articles all about winning free drinks from your friends! Remember to leave a comment at the bottom of the page.

If you really don’t want to buy the next round of drinks for your friends, you need to place a bet. A proposition bet to be more precise. This is the kind of bet that makes the other person think ones who can win, when you know that you are almost always going to come out in your favor.

Our fourth installment is focusing on a bit of mind games and counting on the other person to take eveything at face value and not really think through everything. I call this “Can’t Lift Me” though there are probably lots of other names for it! It’s a simple trick and great for a laugh.

Find your desired target, and ask them which hand is strongest. Then tell them that you bet a round of drinks that you can put something into their weakest hand that they will never be able to carry in their strongest.

At this point they might be a bit confused and think you’re a bit crazy, no way could you do that! So, they’ll agree.

You then take the elbow of their strongest arm, and put it in their weakest hand. Congratulations you can claim your next drink!

Scholarships are getting more and more competitive. Which is why I was delighted when I stumbled a list of some of the oddest scholarships around. So, forget about the traditional sports and academic scholarships, and say hello to some of the weirdest ones around!

Here is an extract including my favourite of all the scholarships:

Young people just don’t appreciate how easy they have it these days. Back when I was in high school, only the smartest or most athletic students were candidates for any type of college scholarship. Not anymore. Today’s students don’t have to be the best and the brightest to score some scratch – they can parlay a hobby, goofy talent or even a genetic luck of the draw into scholarship money. Take a gander at some of the more unusual opportunities that are available for eight subsets of the population (but first get the heck off my lawn.)

My favourite scholarship:

8. Twins Who Don’t Hate Each Other

If you happen to be a twin and don’t mind spending an additional four years with your sibling, several schools offer scholarships for twins. Morris Brown College in Atlanta, Georgia, waives tuition for one twin when both enroll, Lake Erie College in Painsville, Ohio, offers half-off tuition for each twin, and Wilson College in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, has 45% discounts available on tuition for female twins only.

You can read the rest of the article here.

Welcome to the third installment of a series of 5 articles all about winning free drinks from your friends!

This is one of my favourite ways to get free drinks. I call it “Drink Me If You Can” but I’m sure there is a proper name for it somewhere I just have never come across it and I like the sound of mine. You need to be pretty good a downing one pint quickly to win this one, but once the first pint is down you can take as long as you need.

The way you play this bet, is to say that you bet they can’t drink 6 shots (of orange juice) before you drink 3 pints of beer (or water). Seems like they are definitely going to win right? Wrong.

Tell them that the only rules are that no one can touch anyone else’s glass or drink. Simple.

You then start drinking! They will probably get through 3 shots minimum when you have downed your first pint. Then they might start acting very cocky, that’s fine…who cares, the more they act like this the better for you!

When you have finished, quickly place your pint glass over one of their remaining shot glasses. You win. If they try to move it, they are breaking the rules. Of course, you need to pick your target carefully, make sure they’re not the kind of person who will be clever and drink them all first.

Hope you enjoyed this method, one of the easiest to pull off in my opinion!

Here is a short extract from the article, but you’ll have to visit the site to get the full article:

We’ve all heard the myth that American beer is weak and not for “Real” men but I am here to tell you that that is COMPLETE crap. Yes, there is still plenty of Bud Light available for weak-ass, beer-water drinkers, but if you are looking for a strong manly beer then stop right here.

We’ve compiled a list of over 50 Extra-Strong Beers that will knock you flat on your ass. Each beer on this list was specially chosen for one reason, and one reason only, a minimum of 10% alcohol by volume (ABV).

No mamby-pamby light beer here. With names like Korruptor, Devil’s Milk and Double Bastard Ale you can bet these bad-boys will deliver a swift kick and leave you crawling to bed on the bathroom floor.

Check out the list and the rest of the article here

We’ve all been there, lessons where we just wished the time would hurry up! So, here we have compiled the top 5 ways, to make time fly by.

5: Coming in at number 5 is the one drilled into me by my teachers past and present. It is possibly my least favourite one, and basically contradicts the reason I am trying to make time pass, but some people may find success with it. What are we talking about? Paying attention to the class!

4: Another classic method of passing time, is people watching. Though some view it as a leisurely activity you partake in when you are sitting in a pleasant little cafe, it is just as useful if you are situated near the window in a particularly dull lesson.

3: I used to find this particularly useful in my old statistics classes. Most Math I can bear, but drawing graphs is just particularly dull. This activity can be made even more fun if you have an equally bored friend. What am I talking about? Filling in the Dots! On a piece a graph or squared paper, you can have endless fun racing each other to fill in every single square on the paper (double sided)

2: Take yourself on a short holiday. For anyone with a sense of imagination, this should be a very easy way to escpae the torment and torture of any lesson they chose. Let your imagination roam free, as you take yourself away on a well deserved break! Though, if you’re like me, you’ll probably end up dosing off completely and ending up in deep trouble when you don’t know where you are supposed to be reading on the board.

1: Time honoured and time tested, what else could be number one on the list? It has to be…doodling! Let your creative side flow on a piece of unwanted paper, you’d never guess at the number of masterpieces I have created over the past few years. Just remember, have your masterpiece in a place where it is easy to hide and swap with your real work.

So, what are your best methods of mental escape from lessons? Let us know by commenting below (hey, I’m a poet).

* I don’t recommend you do this for every lesson, some times it might just be best to concentrate…but only once in a while ;).

It was in the year 1853 that the Eastern Florida Seminary got the full control of the Kingsbury Academy located in Ocala. The seminary later moved to during the 1860s and much later it was consolidated with the Florida’s land-granted Agricultural College. In the year 1905, the aforementioned college finally became a university through legislative action and was re-located to Gainesville. The first classes first had a total of 102 students and UF officially was opened for women in the year 1947. The university now has 51,000 students and more and now happens to be one of the five largest universities of the whole country.

Florida has a huge 2,000-acre campus and there are over 900 buildings on the campus site. The northeastern corner of the campus is enlisted as Historic District on the prestigious National Register of Historic Places. The residence halls of the university can accommodate a total of 7,000 students and there are a total of five family housing villages that can hold much more than 2,200 married as well as graduate students.

Florida has a total of 16 colleges and there are over 100 research as well as education centers as well as bureaus and study institutes. USF offers more than 100 UG majors.

The University has a good trend of holding world-class symphony orchestras not to mention Broadway plays, large-scale ballet performances and operas. UF also boasts of many artistic venues and also has a collection of over 6,000 original works and also has a couple of television stations not to mention a total of four radio stations. The university also has a good athletic record and the athletic teams from here have ranked among the 10 best athletic programs of USA in the last two decades. The university also has several many recreation centers, outdoor courts and fields.
USF offers both Graduate as well as Undergraduate programs and all the applications are coordinated by the Office of Admissions. You have the facility of applying to these courses online as well.

Welcome to the second installment of a series of 5 articles all about winning free drinks from your friends!

This is one of the most classic ways to win free drinks off your friends. It goes by a variety of different names however one of the common names for it is “The olive and the wine glass” this is due to the fact that the main elements you need to win are an olive and a wine glass.

Your friend, or someone on the table (possibly you) needs to have an olive. You may have got this out of a drink, or there may be a little bowl of them on the table. You also need a wine glass; many people like to have this glass with a little wine left in the bottom so no one thinks about it.

The first thing to do is put forward your bet. You need to say something like “I bet a round of drinks that you can’t get this Olive from this beer mat here to this beer mat here.” It sounds easy, but you need to lay down the following rules:

They can’t touch the olive

They can’t move the beer mat

They can’t attempt to blow it

It mustn’t touch the table

They (hopefully) won’t have a clue how to do it. So they may try, but eventually they’ll give up and think it is impossible.

That’s when you step in. Down the rest of your wine (make sure you only have a little bit) and then put it over the top of the beer mat. Catch the Olive on the edge of the glass (inside) and begin to move it round in a circle, until the olive is going round up the side. Then quickly move it over to the next beer mat. Voila! There you go, you have just won the bet.

This is a tricky concept, so here is a video version I found that might help you visualise it better.

In the year 1876, the former Governor of California Leland Stanford bought a total of 650 acres of Rancho San Francisquito in order to build a country home and soon began to develop the famous Palo Alto Stock Farm. After the death of their only son in the year 1884, the couple decided to memorialize his memory and thus the Stanford University started taking a shape. The first student body comprised of 559 students while the original faculty was 15 and later it grew to 49 in the second year of the college.
